Crazy Darn-Fool Duck
Porky's Duck Hunt (April 17th, 1937)
Directed by Tex Avery
(Dates and credits from The Big Cartoon Database)
(This post accompanies John K's recent post on When Cartoons Evolved - Bugs Bunny ProtoTypes)
Porky's Duck Hunt is an important cartoon in the development of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. In this cartoon, Daffy actually shows hints of what eventually evolve into Bugs Bunny's calm&cool heckler personality, and Daffy's darn-fooled crazy personality.
(I hope they put this cartoon on the next Golden Collection - these are the only clips I've ever seen!)
Porky initiates a rivalry with a little black duck...
Look what happens when Porky sends his dog out to retrieve the duck!
Calm, Cool and Confident...
Here's a scene animated by Bob Clampett of that darn-fooled duck...
More craziness...
This pig is just digging himself into a hole...
And a layout drawing!

Amazing Marc! That model sheet and layout drawing are great. It seems like you don't see too much production art from Warner's during this time period.
Thank you guys so much for organizing your posts like this and giving us a priceless education in quality cartoons!
Thanks Chris!
You can find that model sheet and lots of other great production art in Steve Schneider's THAT'S ALL FOLKS!: THE ART OF WARNER BROS. ANIMATION.
Great pics of Daffy being, well...Daffy for the first time. I really hated what he evolved into. Clampett's take on Daffy is my favorite and definetly the most appealing. I'm not fond of Chuck Jones portrayal of him. He went from being looney and fun to just an asshole.
Is this one really done by Clampett?? It looks like some kid traced it...
rare artwork! nice!
Hi Klangley - I like the truly "daffy" Daffy best, too.
Hi Anoymous - according to Steve Schneider's THAT'S ALL FOLKS: THE ART OF WARNER BROS. ANIMATION, it's an animation drawing by Clampett.
Hey Jorge - glad you like it!
